(Note that in April 2009, the
out-of-hours "GP Collaborative Centre" moved to
the Northern General Hospital, Herries Road, Sheffield, S5 7AU)
Accident and Emergency
If you are seriously ill and need emergency care, you can go straight
to an accident and emergency (A&E) department at Northern
General Hospital.
Alternatively, you can call 999 for an emergency ambulance.
Emergency out-of-hours advice and services
To use the out-of-hours service, patients must ring their GP Practice.
Their call will then be diverted to the out-of-hours service. Initial
demographic details are taken (entered onto computer system) and then a
doctor phones the patient back to make a more detailed clinical
assessment. At this stage the doctor will decide with the patient
the best course of action. One option is to arrange an
appointment with a doctor at the GP
Collaborative Centre, which has now moved to the Northern General
Hospital. At this stage patients are normally given an appointment time
and instructions on how to get to the GP Centre.
If you go to the Herries Road entrance
of the Northern General Hospital. The GP Centre is the second building
on the right hand side as you enter the main hospital road from Herries
Road, slightly further on from the old flower shop and just before the
first right side road. The building is set back from the road and has a
'GP Centre' sign. There is patient parking on the left at the
Herries Road entrance (opposite the GP Centre) and further patient
parking if you take the first right side road, the GP Centre being on
that corner.
Note that patients just turning up without going through the proper
process and who don't therefore have an appointment will not be seen.
Minor illness such as skin conditions, colds / flu, infections
Patients with minor illnesses such as skin conditions, colds/ flu,
infections can turn up at the Walk in Centre,
(which has moved from the Hallamshire Hospital to Rockingham House on Broad Lane), and be seen by an Advanced Nurse for
advice / treatment and no appointment is necessary for this service,
just turn up. This service is open 8am - 10 pm every day including
Bank Holidays.
